Spring into Motherhood – Celebrating Growth and Resilience

Motherhood looks different for everyone but there are certain aspects we all share.

It is my humble opinion that motherhood is built around every day moments that show the depth of our commitment to caring and connecting with children. It may show up in the way we carefully prepare food, a lullaby, an evening dance session, or sharing the wonder of the natural environment. Motherhood may look like shared hugs, secret handshakes, wash days, or favorite games. No matter how you add your personal flare, motherhood is a deeply personal journey.

Untethered Moms has always been about being free to define motherhood on your own terms. Through grounded experiences, tools, and conversations we aim to help women reconnect with themselves and feel held through the seasons that often feel the heaviest.

Spring is about renewal, awakening and celebration

I come from a family of gardeners. My people have a deep connection with the soil, nurturing living things with patience, care, and reverence. It took me time to find my green thumb, I admit, it used to be brown. I started out selecting plants for their beauty but lacked the patience or skill required to truly care for them. I would lose interest, over water, under water, and resist pruning even if it meant my plants were struggling; but I’m working on it.

The best garden starts with soil

It took some time to shift my attention to the environment itself that produces the harvest. I find myself spending more time caring for the soil itself before sowing seeds. In the garden, the soil is crucial to success. Sometimes it is important to test the soil and add things to make it healthy including compost, manure, worm castings, and moss. Each amendment is meant to increase fertility and productivity of the soil once it has been planted.

Sowing seeds

Once the soil has been prepared it is time to select and sow seeds. This requires quite a bit of knowledge and planning. Certain plants grow best when paired with others offering natural pest control while others compete for nutrients or naturally make chemicals that stunt growth.

Seeds carry silent prayers and represent hope in the future. There is nothing quite like starting a plant from seed, watching it sprout, nurturing its growth and ensuring a successful season. Like plants, my children are nurtured and cared for. There are times when their growth requires gentle molding while other habits require more pruning. Children have their own mind, thoughts, feelings, and dreams for themselves. It is my job as their parent to prepare them to hopefully become full healthy and whole humans without losing myself along the way.

Life lessons and gardening

I have learned many life lessons from my time in the garden and parenting is no different. Each period has included a season of rest and contemplation, a season of preparation and planting, and a season of harvest or work. This spring feels like an awakening and I am recommitting to nurturing myself in this process.

This season we are celebrating all the mothers and the way we show up.

  • Mothers that birth babies
  • Mothers that adopt babies that are not biologically theirs
  • Foster mothers that care for children needing safety and love
  • Step mothers in blended families
  • Grandmothers
  • Co – mothers in shared parenting
  • Neighborhood mothers who watch the community

All the mothers

We see you, celebrate you and honor you
